چکیده
Background. Sepsis and septic shock are the most severe clinical expressions of infection, despite having characterized several decades ago, remain as a diagnostic challenging this can delay treatment increasing hospital cost secondary to pathology.
Our objective was determine usefulness mean platelet volume delta (ΔVPM) predictor mortality.
Methodology. We performed an observational descriptive study with 83 patients / or criteria, from May 1, 2017 August 2017. Survival analysis using Kaplan Meier tables corroborated by Long Rank test. The prognostic value through proportional risk Cox.
Results. Thirty-seven (44.6%) died because process. A univariate Cox regression revealed MPV index at admission less than 4 associated significant reduction in mortality sepsis 60 days (HR, 0.236; 95% CI, 0.083-0.671; p = 0.007). DVPM not significantly 0.373, 0.132-1.057, 0.640).
Conclusion. parameters economical available, providing results, avoiding costs, time special tests. VPM PLQ could be effective "Alert System" early sepsis.

The association of platelet count and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with types of stroke
Background: Stroke is known to be the third most prominent cause of death in the developing countries and the most common debilitating neurologic disease. This study aimed to investigate the association of platelet count (PC) and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with various stroke types. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on patients over the age of 18 years who presented wit...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Mean Platelet Volume in Neonates with Intraventricular Hemorrhage and Sepsis
Background: Neonatal sepsis is a generalized bacterial infection which occurs in the first month of life. Intraventricular hemorrhage is the most common intracerebral disorder which occurs in premature neonates. Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) is considered as a marker of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in some studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of MPV on IVH and sepsis in n...

Background: The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of mean platelet volume (MPV) in comparison with Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), quick SOFA (qSOFA), and Mortality in Severe Sepsis in the Emergency Department (MISSED) scoring systems in predicting hospital mortality among patients with severe sepsis. Methods: This follow-up stud...
متن کاملAn Increase in Mean Platelet Volume from Baseline Is Associated with Mortality in Patients with Severe Sepsis or Septic Shock
INTRODUCTION Mean platelet volume (MPV) is suggested as an index of inflammation, disease activity, and anti-inflammatory treatment efficacy in chronic inflammatory disorders; however, the effect of MPV on sepsis mortality remains unclear. Therefore, we investigated whether the change in MPV between hospital admission and 72 hours (ΔMPV72h-adm) predicts 28-day mortality in severe sepsis and/or ...
متن کاملMean platelet volume in patients with prolactinoma.
OBJECTIVE Prolactin is a multifunctional pituitary hormone. The effect of prolactin on platelet activation is not well understood. Prolactinomas are the most common type of pituitary adenomas, and they are medically responsive to dopamine agonists. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a marker of platelet function and activation. The aim of this study was to evaluate MPV values before and 6 months of ...
